In July of 1961, General Motors ElectroMotive Division introduced the diesel locomotive that would become one of the most famous models of second-generation motive power. This diesel proved to be the "Revolutionary" GP-30 that EMDs advertising had promised. Auto designers from the GM Technical Center in Warren, Michigan contributed to the locomotives sylized roofline and streamlined features. With its unique carbody design, the 2,250 horsepower locomotive looked exceptionally different from all prior EMD models.
